Its really turning into an existential tug of war now... Why should I not post on my own message board, again? About my show which didn't raise a single dime for the troops? And if I'm toiling in obscurity, what are you toiling in? Why work so hard to remind me that I'm toiling in obscurity?

One of the craigslist postings that stuck out in my mind was about artists moving to new york to make it and how this was an outdated notion in the age of the internet. What a strange thing to say... I gotta say, I was listening to this indie station down here & the DJ starts talking up the next song by this band out of Brooklyn & he goes into this rant on how everyone knows the Brooklyn music scene ended about 5 years ago & how nothing really good comes out of Brooklyn anymore. I don't remember the name of the band, but I gotta say, given the song he played... to be nice, it wasn't my taste. Does it really matter where a band hails from? I don't think so. Talent isn't married to a locale.

True. But its not like the Howl/Thems Good Eatin/ the Leprechaunquistadors/Grindhouse A Go Go (for my part of it) would have happened if I'd never moved out of bumfuck shittsville.

And I love, love love love, "Flag the Art Star Spam". It's like- We can't have this other shit going on here, we need to reserve this board for xenophobia and racism!

Re: Jeannie. I'm guessing that band was MGMT. Tue truth is, great music happens in Brooklyn all the time, it just doesn't neccessarily make it through the filter to people like your DJ friend. To certain people, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are the ONLY band to have come out of brooklyn in the past ten years.

How can the internet have rendered place immaterial? That's ridiculous. You need musicians to play with, poets to accompany, people to vibe with, etc. I'm not going to refute anything else you said about nyc, its all true...

Re: Cloud Cult. I'm sure they're cool, but if you check out the wiki link for artstars and investigate each of the people listed there, its really no contest. Cultural impact overload. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Stars

We provided a warm environment and stage time to countless kooks and outsiders who couldn't have gotten it anywhere else...
We saw countless careers get started, with cultural impact out the wazoo.
And... We stalked an Asian girl with malware and raped her.
(Ah well, nobody's perfect)
