Half marathon completed, 10/16 in beautiful Asbury Park. I very nearly ran the whole thing. Gay Deer served me well until the very end; I was in a crouch and felt I could pick off people at will. During the last lap I felt crippled and had to walk a bit, then reverted to heel-to-toe strides and discovered a fresh wind I didn't know I had. Finished with a smile on my face.
The race was run as a relay I split with my sister. Four laps around a beachside course. A DJ played dance music at the exchange spot and a guy with a microphone cheered everyone on.
My pre-race meal consisted of beer and grilled bar food, to no ill effect, and my post race meal was beer and bar food, to wonderful effect, at the Doll's Place bar in New Brunswick.
I credit Gay Deer with helping me overcome the injuries I was getting when I started (shin splints, IT band syndrome) but I cramped up and couldn't move after doing it for too long. I speculate successful races in the future will involve switching styles from time to time to keep things loose.

One post script- Cool temperatures and no hills made this race about a million times easier than the Vestal race in June. I shaved off a half hour to forty minutes of race time but can't be certain how much.
