Back in the day when folk believed in Gods such as Zeus, Apollo, etc. the main problem seemed to be mankind felt since the Gods weren't human they couldn't relate to us on any level & visa versa. So that got me wondering if that's why we came up with the notion that Jesus was God walking the Earth just like us mere mortals so now God could relate to us and we to Him and now we have that connection so its easier to believe in and worship a God after all. Just something to wonder about on a warm, sunny day. I'm not asking anyone to believe or not believe in a "higher power" of any kind. I'm just thinking about how we got from point A to point B in a religious belief system.

I thought the problem was the Greek gods were too relatable, with all their passions and foibles and follies?

Not really, the gods kept screwing around with mankind, deciding who lived, who died, who had sex with who & with what, the weather, etc. They never took mankind's feelings into consideration and no one wants to worship such gods. So along comes Jesus... and the rest, as they say, is history.

Hercules had a similar lineage and played a similar role, but he can't "live in your heart"...

But Hercules wasn't a God. He was just some dude the gods messed with. Jesus, on the other hand, even though he denied it, was God.

Works for me. I'm not Jewish and I could get down with turning the tables on my pagan captors in the afterlife. ;D
