I look forward to this event. Not exactly sure how it will work, but it'll be interesting to find out.

Hello hello hello! Today's Who Gives A Fuck What You Think interview is being conducted with poet, performance artist, published author and patron saint of the uncool St. Rev Jen Miller. Anyone may post a question. (Easiest if you register, but you don't need to, you'll just have to enter a code each time.)
Ready when you are Jen! Holla ;D

First three questions, in compound form-
Why did you wtart having a weekly antislam?
How long did you run it for?
Why did you stop (or switch to doing it monthly)?

Pretty sure it started 15 years ago in October. For ten years it was at Collective on Dudelow. Then it moved everywhere.

We were nomads for a while even doing it for a couple weeks at a hair salon/dungeon/bar. Then we wound up at the sorely missed Mo Pitkins for 1.5 years then when they closed, I quit.

Then I missed it and Bowery offered me the 4th Wed. of every month. Even more than the show, I missed the people who came to it and the chance to be around that creative energy. Also, the other open mikes didn't offer the intimacy of the Anti-Slam. Love Show and Tell, but it was more comedic and the other open mike could as you say "suck a dick."

What were some of the plusses and minuses of running a scene that anyone could be a part of?

Also, when I initially stopped it, it was because of complete and total exhaustion and mental breakdown. Doing it weekly prevented me from doing certain things like completing books and paintings.
